A rare visit to Twitter put ‘bedroom guitarist’ Ichika Nito on my radar, and this song has been my favorite thing ever since.
Ichika Nito is clearly a very technical musician, yet I really like how dialed back and accessible this one sounds. There’s a comfortable amount of call-and-response, familiar themes and low intensity sections for easy listening – meticulously decorated with solid riffs and flourishes, a really good percussion performance to match, and some of the better mixing and mastering I’ve heard in music.
The music video itself is also captivating in how unorthodox it is. Everything about the sets, outfits, dance choreography, mixed mediums, and gratuitous amounts of title cards makes for an arcane, almost ominous aesthetic that I want to see more of. I’m really glad that this artist has grown from simple video clips to fully directed productions, yet can still keep a level of originality about his work that is off the charts. He’s apparently collaborated with a number of my favorite artists already, and I’ll intently be watching where he goes next.
