Roughsketch is one of the better-known electronic Hardcore producers in Japan. I’m a fan of how his work crosses over various European styles of Hardcore as well as ‘J-Core’, adopting and mixing influences between them. Giant Strength is one such example, and is in itself the best ‘Hardstyle’ song I’ve come across to date. It doesn’t stray far from the formula of melodic drum kicks, lengthy lead-ins and dramatic vocal samples, but every aspect is just made and mastered impeccably well. The flutes, chants and marching drums through the build-up sections really instill a vibe of something colossal approaching – which already pairs up perfectly with a signature Hardstyle drop. The genre as a whole may be an acquired taste, but that is always more reason to give it some appreciation.
