Japanese artist Lonouc is a producer of upbeat EDM and rock-influenced music of a variety of styles, and also some of the most thoughtful Glitch-Hop music I’ve discovered. Dusvessen is the track which has stuck with me the most; a kind of glitchy industrial prog-rock hybrid of a track, carried along on eerie orchestral strings and a chord structure which I couldn’t begin to name. It establishes rather simple melodic patterns with what could have been a guitar lead, instead letting the glitches and syncopations in the percussion take center stage. It’s not an uncommon way to approach glitch-hop, but the way it’s layered with its other influences makes it click with me.
At the time of writing, this song’s view count on Youtube is at a humble 32. Is there such thing as being too much of a hipster with one’s music tastes? I would sooner clutch my beanie hats and insist that the mainstream is wrong. There’s a place and time for both in all seriousness, but I really do feel that songs and artists like these make music as special as it is. Hopefully this Gratitude contributes to one more impression.
